Orgaworld Odour - Continuous Improvements
As part of our continuous improvement program, Orgaworld is constantly looking at ways to improve our performance. Since September of last year, we have been running a pilot on the use of a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system at our Orgaworld London plant.
The purpose of this pilot is to assess if we can improve the effectiveness of our biofilters by removing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from the bioscrubber water. VOCs include both human-made and naturally occurring chemical compounds. Most scents or Orgaworld odours are of VOCs
The ultimate objective of our RO Pilot is to improve Orgaworld odour performance. We are pleased to report that the results to date have been positive in that the VOC’s have decreased in the bioscrubber and odour measurements taken from the stack have shown very good results, in some cases, historic lows. Feedback that we have received from our neighbours would also appear to confirm these positive results, along with the odour tests performed by the Commissionaires.
Orgaworld will continue to operate the Pilot RO until Ministry of the Environment has a chance to digest the operational report. We have submitted a request to the MOE to continue operating the Pilot unit until the warmer weather months to verify effectiveness. If deemed effective, Orgaworld plans to submit an amendment to our Site Environmental Compliance Approval (Air) to allow the full-time operation of the Reverse Osmosis technology.
